BarrierSafe Solutions International
announces the acquisition of the assets of Bernard Technologies
Inc.
August 3, 2005:
Barrier Safe Solutions International (BSSI), of Reno, Nevada,
the parent corporation of Microflex Corporation ( Reno, Nevada)
and FoodHandler, Inc. ( Westbury, NY), recently acquired
the assets of Bernard Technologies Incorporated (BTI) of
Chicago, from the Federal Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. Bernard
Technologies both owned and licensed a broad range of patents
for controlled release microbiocides and odor neutralizing
products.
BSSI has formed a new company, MicroActive Corp. to develop
these technologies. MicroActive Corporation has also assumed
exclusive worldwide licensing rights for the underlying patented
micro encapsulation science from prestigious Southwest Research
Institute (SwRI). SwRI is an independent, nonprofit applied
research and development organization. SwRI specializes in
the creation and transfer of technology in engineering and
the physical sciences. The Institute employs 3,000 professionals
and support personnel, is set on 1,200 acres in San Antonio,
Texas, and occupies nearly two million square feet of laboratories,
test facilities, workshops, and offices.
Included in the acquired technologies are two proprietary,
controlled release technologies called Microsphere® and
Microlite® that focus on preventing and eliminating biological
contamination. Both the Microsphere® and the Microlite® patented
sustained release systems are innovative technologies enabling
the creation of an active Microatmosphere® environment
that inhibits the growth of microorganisms and actively neutralizes
undesirable odors. The active Microatmosphere® is formed
by the generation of a highly effective broad spectrum antimicrobial
compound that is used for disinfecting and sterilizing materials
in food and medical applications, and is a vapor-phase system
that controls biological contamination without requiring
direct surface contact.
